Listing details

The PelvicToner was first listed within the Drug Tariff Part IXA-Appliances in the new category of Pelvic Toning Devices for England in January 2011. The authorities in Scotland, Wales and Norther Ireland immediately followed suit, meaning that women throughout the UK can benefit from the advantages of PelvicToner exercises to treat any conditions caused by pelvic floor weakness. All new mothers, women over 60 and very many more pay nothing for their prescriptions. To see if you qualify for a FREE PelvicToner click the link to the right.

Saving the NHS money

Treatment of USI using the PelvicToner is the cheapest option available, so your request could save the NHS money as well as providing you with an effective solution.

A key part of the submission to NHS Prescription Services, and something very much endorsed by the BJUI author Professor Marcus Drake, is that, according to NICE's own figures, a single physiotherapy visit costs in the region of £168 (and that figure is from 2005*). A three month course of treatment would include perhaps 4 such visits, so £632! The PelvicToner costs the NHS a tiny fraction of this and therefore represents extremely good value for money.

If the PelvicToner was provided automatically to every woman presenting with symptoms of SUI then the subsequent reduction in demand for scarce specialist physiotherapy services and surgical intervention could be focussed on the most needy.

*The cost-benefit justification for the PelvicToner was presented to NHS Prescription Services based on data provided in NICE CG40 Full Guidelines which, at the time of the exercise, were 7 years out of date.

The NICE Guideline does not add a cost for primary care and the assumption was made that the cost of an initial GP consultation with a referral or prescription carries no cost.
